Veganism is growing in popularity, so explore the benefits with these three deliciously spicy vegan concoctions. They taste amazing!

Veganism is becoming an ever increasing popular way of life. Many believe that abstaining from animal products, will not only save the lives of many animals, but improve their own health too.

It is easy to think that with many dietry restrictions a vegan lifestyle can be a little bland, but with our organic culinary herbs and spices you can make some truly delicious food. Why not try one of the following recipes for yourself?

Spicy Cauliflower Florets

VEGAN spice

These hot little bites are like a vegan hot wing; they are full of flavour and just as moist. And they’re pretty healthy too! To make them you will need:

1 cauliflower head

250ml of water

200ml hot sauce of choice

150g plain flour

1 tbsp. olive oil

2 tsp. garlic powder

Method:

Start off by preheating the oven to 230°C or gas mark 8. And chop the cauliflower up into small bitesized pieces.

In a bowl mix together the water, flour and garlic until combined well. Coat the cauliflower in this mixture and place on a shallow baking dish or tray. Cook in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

While you wait for the cauliflower, combine the olive oil with the hot sauce. Once the correct time has passed, remove the cauliflower from the oven, pour over the sauce and put back into the oven for 5 to 10 minutes. Be careful not to burn them!

Serve up with celery and a vegan cheese dip.

Red Chili Roasted Chickpeas

VEGAN spice

These chickpeas are a great spicy snack for you to graze on throughout the day, as they are full of protein, and very filling. To make these you will need:

1 can of chickpeas

1 tsp. black pepper

1 tsp. sea salt

1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

1 tsp. red chili flakes

½ tsp. cumin

½ tsp. paprika

Method:

Preheat the oven to 200°C or gas mark 6. Then drain and rinse the chickpeas. Make sure to pat these dry and discard any loose skins.

Place all of the ingredients into a bowl and stir so the chickpeas are evenly coated. Place on a baking tray and cook for 30minutes. Turn them about half way through.

Serve warm, fresh out of the oven.

Spicy Black Bean Soup

VEGAN 3

Now the cold weather is on its way, warm up with a nice warm bowl of spicy black bean soup. It’s easy to make and would make a perfect work lunch. You will need:

An onion

A carrot

A jalapeno pepper

A tube of tomato paste

5 garlic cloves

4 cups of vegetable stock (roughly 800ml)

500g cooked black beans

3 tbsp. olive oil

2 tsp. cumin

1 tsp. cayenne pepper

A bay leaf

Juice of ½ a lime

Pinch of salt and pepper

Method:

Prepare the ingredients ready for cooking. Dice the onion, carrot and pepper, and mince the garlic.

Put a large pan or stew pot onto heat with the oil and sauté the onion, carrot, garlic and cumin for a few minutes.

When the onions begin to go translucent, add the pepper and stir on the heat for around 2 minutes. The next step is to add the black beans, tomato paste, vegetable stock, bay leaf and cayenne pepper. Stir well so the mixture combines.

Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat to simmer for 45 minutes.

Add the lime, salt and pepper, and remove the bay leaf. Decant into a blender and blitz to your preferred consistency. (we still like a few little lumps in ours).

Serve up in large bowls, but be careful – it’s hot!
